The VK45.01(H) is a tank developed by Henchel at the request of the German Army Weapons Bureau's 45t class tank "VK45.01" development plan. In 1941, the Army Weapons Bureau requested Henchel and Porsche to develop under the names of VK45.01(H) and VK45.01(P), respectively, and Henchel was developing the VK36. They proceeded with the development of the VK45.01(H) based on the 01(H). Initially, the turret was planned to be diverted from the VK36.01(H), but since it was hurriedly decided to change the armament to the KwK36, Porsche decided to divert the turret designed for the VK45.01(P). The design of the VK36.01(H) was diverted to the VK45.01(H) in order to shorten the development period, but the VK45.01(H) had a large weight increase, so the wheels had to be installed in a double row. The tracks were also replaced with a new version.
